Equality Policy
Last reviewed: May 2025 · Next review: May 2026
Wellcome Church believes every person is made in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We are committed to being a community where all are truly welcome.
Our commitment
We will not treat anyone less favourably because of:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage or civil partnership
- Pregnancy or maternity
- Race, nationality or ethnic origin
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
These are the nine protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010, which we are committed to upholding in all our activities.
What this means in practice
We will:
- Welcome everyone who comes to our services and events
- Make reasonable adjustments to ensure our activities are accessible to people with disabilities
- Treat all volunteers and those we serve with fairness and respect
- Take seriously any complaint that we have treated someone unfairly
- Not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination of any kind
Religious organisation exemption
As a Christian church, we hold certain theological beliefs about faith, worship and the nature of the church. The Equality Act 2010 recognises that religious organisations may act in accordance with their beliefs in certain circumstances. Where this applies, we will always act with grace, kindness and respect for every individual.
Accessibility
We meet at Orsett Churches Centre, High Street, Orsett, RM16 3ER. If you have a disability or access need and would like to know more about the venue before visiting, please get in touch and we will do our best to help.
Raising a concern
If you feel you have been treated unfairly or discriminated against, please use our complaints process. We take all such concerns seriously.
Responsibility
The trustees of Wellcome Church are responsible for this policy and for making sure it is followed. This policy is reviewed every year.
